Design Inspire Live

Design Inspire Live at Headingley Heart

This Saturday (13th June) I shall be taking my glass to Design@Heart, a unique event at The Heart Centre, Headingley for designer homewares and gifts. I'm quite excited about this event because it is the first one of it's kind at The Heart Centre, replacing the craft fairs with something a bit more tailored to customers interested in original items for the home. The ethos behind Design Inspire Live is to promote designer makers with themed events, where we can showcase and sell our work. These events have been designed and created by Becky Moore, herself a creative designer and you can find out more by visiting the website DesignInspireLive.

The Heart Centre Headingley

On a sad note, the organisers of Settle Artisans have decided to call it a day with the fairs at Victoria Hall, Settle so I won't be attending any future dates planned for this year. If you received a mail shot from me with the dates of all my activities for 2015, please note that it is only the Settle fairs I won't be at - I will still be at Masham, Art in the Pen at Skipton, Kelbrook Craft Fair and Strid Tea Rooms this summer.   If there are any future fairs planned at Settle I will definitely be signing up as Settle has always been a great place to sell my glass.

Making and Taking

Make Your Own Glass Decoration

If you are visiting Historic Haworth (home of the Brontes) on Saturday 5th October then pop into the Old School Room (opposite the Bronte Parsonage) and have a go at making your own fused glass decoration. Using quality Bullseye coloured glass you can design and create something wonderful to keep forever.

Hearts of Glass

This event is free although you will need to arrange to collect your glass from my studio in Sunny Silsden after it has been fused or pay £3 for the postage. Either way, you will be the owner of an original and beautiful gift and this may even be the start of a new craft!

Making and Doing Event at Haworth has been organised by Pennine Prospects and is part of a regional festival for the arts.  For more information visit Pennine Prospects

Glass Hearts at Glassprimitif

I was recently asked to make some glass hearts for a customer who wanted to give them as gifts at the Race for Life Event.

The hearts are quite simple in design and are made from a combination of pink, white and clear glass so that each one is different. The customer bought four of the glass hearts and is pleased with the hearts and I have listed the rest on Etsy for sale.

So now I am coming to the end of my obsession with hearts (I think...) and am casting around for a new idea for designing glass. Watch this space!

Mother's Day in the UK

It's Mother's Day on Sunday 22 March and what better gift to send to your Mum than a glass heart pendant?

Why choose glass? Well it lasts a lot longer than flowers - making it so much better value for money. You have a great choice of colours and Glassprimitif can send your glass heart direct to Mum, anywhere in the UK, provided you order it by Wednesday 17 March at Folksy.com
Of course, if you are in the USA you can be confident that your gift will arrive in plenty of time for May 10 by ordering from Etsy.

These delicate glass Polka Dot Hearts are made from opal glass and have an Aanranku silver plate bail attached. They look great hanging from a cord or sterling silver chain.

Hearts of glass

Before Valentine's Day Shaw Galleries asked me to make some heart shaped pendants. Yikes! I anticipated that the shapes would be very difficult to cut but, after a bit of practise, I really enjoy making these now. These ones are Bullseye chips placed between a clear and vanilla glass heart. Unfortunately, if I don't get them right the first time, they lose their shape in the kiln when re-fired (top left pendant) and become triangles. I also make these in dichroic glass. (See below). Hearts of Glass now showing at Shaw Galleries in Skipton North Yorks UK www.shawgalleries.co.uk and also at www.glassprimitif.etsy.com
